Hometown boy – Robbie Renwick
This summer is a huge occasion for Glasgow. Hosting a major sporting event is a fantastic opportunity for the city to showcase what it has to offer. From Argyll Arcade to Trades Hall, the eyes of the world will be on Scotland’s biggest city.
It’s also a huge occasion for the city’s athletes. Although born in the UAE, swimmer Robbie Renwick was raised in Glasgow and swims for the City of Glasgow club.
In his new film, produced exclusively for Strathmore, Robbie says “having the games in my home city is a huge motivation to get myself in the best possible shape to win a gold medal”. It’s not an unrealistic target either –he’s the current Commonwealth 200m freestyle gold medal holder, so come July he’ll be defending his title.
His grueling training routine of 5am starts in ice-cold swimming pools is solely geared towards finding those extra few milliseconds that could make all the difference between retaining his medal. It’s an inspiration to all of us who can sometimes find it hard to get up off the sofa and do more.
So when you’re watching the games this summer look out for Robbie in the pool – here’s hoping he can give Glaswegians a gold medal of their own.
